The adhesive is a substance which, when applied to one surface or both surfaces of two different items, binds them together resisting their separation. These can be either found naturally or can also be produced synthetically. Adhesives can be classified into numerous types but are mainly of the kinds discussed below.

·         Water-based adhesives: These adhesives are basically a combination of polymers, additives and water. Water-based adhesives are said to be ideal for porous as well as non-porous substrates. These adhesives can be found as powders as well as solutions. Both the liquid and dry adhesives are equally effective. This works when activated automatically when water is absorbed by the substrate or is evaporated.
·         Solvent-based adhesives: The polymer system in formulation decides how the solvent based adhesive will perform. Solvents evaporate quickly after it is applied to the substrate. Strong bonds can be made immediately after applying the adhesive or after few seconds when some solvent has evaporated but make sure the adhesive is not completely dry. Solvent-based adhesives can be found in brush, spray, ribbon, or roll, as the application requirement demands.
·         Hot Melt Adhesives: Hot melt adhesive is also known as the hot glue which is very easily available in the market as glue sticks along with the hot glue gun which melts the plastic glue and makes it ready to use.
The glue comes out of the nozzle of the glue gun when the trigger is pushed. This melted glue is initially very hot and can even burn the skin. The adhesive solidifies within a few seconds of its application and results in making a bond which is strong enough to resist the separation.
All the above-mentioned adhesives are highly effective for some particular kind of substrate. You might not get the same strong results if you misuse them with substrates which they are not meant to use on. Use these adhesives with utmost care and make sure you don't harm yourself in any way.
You cannot use all kind of adhesives with all type of substrates. These adhesives are used in almost every business or manufacturing company to meet their needs. You can find a variety of each type of adhesive in the market.
