·         Caustic soda: The increased pH in the pulping process of fibres are the result of the addition of caustic soda during paper manufacturing. This results in the smoothening and swelling of the fibre ultimately helping in its grinding process.

·         Sizing agent: AKD (alkyl ketene dimer) and ASA (alkenyl succinic anhydride) are popularly used nowadays to make paper water resistant to make them usable for printability or specific writing.

·         Wet strength additive: This additive is important to be used during the process of paper manufacturing to make sure that the paper does not loses its strength even after becoming wet. This chemical is widely used at the time of production of tissue papers. Chemicals included in this additive are polymines, melamine and epichlorohydrin.
